Arvin Glicksman, MD Receives American Cancer Society Distinguished Service Award
Pawtucket, Rhode Island - November 14, 2003 - Arvin S. Glicksman, MD, FACR. executive director of the Rhode Island Cancer Council is being honored by the
American Cancer Society for his contributions and leadership in the fight against cancer. Dr. Glicksman will receive the Distinguished Service Award, given yearly
in recognition of major achievement in the field of cancer.
Dr. Glicksman is being awarded the Distinguished Service Award for “leading the way in improving and furthering radiation medicine.” Dr. Glicksman is a Professor
of Medical Science Emeritus at Brown University Medical School. Dr. Glicksman developed and chaired the Quality Assurance Review Center for the National Cancer
Institute's Clinical Trial program. He stepped down after 25 years to become executive director of the Rhode Island Cancer Council in 1999. Besides his work at the
Council, Dr. Glicksman maintains a private practice in radiation oncology.
The Rhode Island Cancer Council, established in 1999, is a state supported community program whose mission is to help lower cancer's toll in Rhode Island. Since our
