Laura J. Hilderley, R.N., M.S.

Laura Hilderley is an oncology clinical nurse specialist with many years of professional experience caring for people with cancer and their families. Her area of clinical practice has been concentrated in radiation oncology in both the academic and private practice settings. She has taught and lectured extensively throughout the United States and abroad, and is the author of numerous journal articles and oncology textbook chapters. Ms. Hilderley is co-editor of the landmark textbook Nursing Care in Radiation Oncology.

A long-time American Cancer Society (ACS) volunteer and advocate for cancer control, Hilderley has served as Chairperson and President of the Rhode Island American Cancer Society. In addition to chairing a number of committees at the national level, she has served on the ACS National Board of Directors and is currently an elected Delegate to the National Assembly. She was an officer of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), the largest organization of oncology professionals which now numbers over 27,000 members. Ms. Hilderley is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from both the ONS and the ACS, as well as the ONS/Varian Excellence in Radiation Oncology Nursing Award.

In addition to her role as a member of the Rhode Island Cancer Council, Ms. Hilderley serves on the editorial board for two oncology nursing journals and chairs the Rhode Island Tobacco Control Coalition Leadership Team. Her community activities include the duties of deacon in the Greenwood Community Church, Presbyterian, and membership on the Board of Incorporators for both The Provider Public Library and Kent County Memorial Hospital.
