Just about everyone has been touched by cancer... Since RICAN was established in 1999, we have helped thousands of Rhode Islanders to find resources vital to deal with their cancer, learn what can be done to prevent cancer and ways to detect it early. Our services have included helping a cancer patient find rental assistance, a stem cell transplant patient who needed specific housing, obtaining nutritional supplements for a terminally ill patient with no income, referring patients to prescription assistance programs, obtain life insurance, researching low-cost or no-cost screening methods among other services. Helping Rhode Islanders LEARN AND LIVE, RICAN presents public and professional education programs on cancer prevention, detection, and state-of-the-art advancements in cancer care. To assure that we reach as many Rhode Islanders as possible, these programs are presented FREE of charge and in various locations throughout the State for easy access. To date, we have been funded primarily through the generosity of the Rhode Island State Legislature. To be able to continue these services for more citizens, we need your support. If you are interested in helping us, you can do that in two ways - either through volunteering your time (explore ways to do this by visiting Volunteers) or if your time is limited, perhaps through various avenues of financial support. Both methods are ways to show your generosity and to help all Rhode Islanders in their fight against cancer.  We are a 501(c)3 corporation and your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Credit Card and PayPal Donations: Donations can be made securely by credit card or through your PayPal account by clicking on the following button: Memorial Gifts: Honor the passing of a loved family member, a friend, or a business associate by making a one-time memorial donation or arranging for funeral donations to be made to the Rhode Island Cancer Council, Inc. Honor Gifts: Honor a relative, a friend, a business associate, or a milestone in someone's life by making a donation that will help us educate Rhode Islanders about cancer, extending another person's life. Cash Donations: You may wish to simply make a general cash donation to the Rhode Island Cancer Council, Inc. Planned Giving: There are many avenues for planned giving, including bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, all of which can be coordinated with financial and estate planning in order to assure both your philanthropic and personal needs. These opportunities may include different types of financial and tax benefits. Life Insurance: Life insurance policies you no longer need are an excellent way to remember Rhode Islanders with cancer. You may donate the policy for its present cash value or you may continue to pay the premiums on the policy but name the Rhode Island Cancer Council, Inc. as owner and beneficiary. You may receive an additional tax deduction for the premiums. Naming Opportunities: The Rhode Island Cancer Council, Inc., for a donation of $5,000 or more, will plan a program, named in the honor of anyone you designate, to educate either the citizens of Rhode Island or medical professionals about cancer, based on your preference. For ongoing donations, we will plan an annual program.
